Mental health is a broad term which impacts every child differently and the focus of mental health in children is a bigger now than ever before with various research linking the Covid-19 pandemic with an increase in child related mental health issues.

This training course describes the meaning of the term ‘mental health' and ‘mental ill health’, lists key mental health related conditions or challenges and states legislation and current statistics which relate to mental health support in children including resent research published via the ‘NHS Mental Health of Children and Young People in England (2022)’.

This training course explains the impact which mental health challenges can have on a child and factors which influence mental health and mental ill health for children.

This training curse identifies indicators which may suggest that a child may be experiencing challenges with their mental health and explains barriers which may prevent children speaking about mental health and mental ill health.

This training course explains ways which mental health can be influenced by promoting positive environments for children, key subjects which need to be focused on in encouraging children to have conversations about mental health and explains the importance of promoting positive relationships between supporters and children.

This training course explains the importance of positive supporting including active listening and ways to support children in terms of early intervention and long-term support (‘recovery’).

This training course considers internal sources of support as well as identifying where to access and signpost individuals for additional external support. This is an accredited course.
